Renewable Heat Incentive

Heating accounts for 47% of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions and 60% of average domestic energy bills. To increase the uptake of renewable energy for the purposes of heating the government will be introducing “clean energy cash back” scheme for renewable heat. This will take the form of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

Payments will be calculated on the annual heat output in kilowatt hours (kWh) and awarded quarterly for systems of over 45kW and annually for those below it.

The scheme commences in April 2011 and will last for 15 years. The maximum tariff will be received by those who install equipment in the first years.

The payments are designed to give a 12% rate of return on investment so with interest rates as low as they are and fossil fuel prices so high there is no better time to consider the switch. If you are a commercial, industrial or agricultural business with access to 100 tonnes per week of 'biomass' fuel we can help convert it to heat and electricity. If you want heat only contact the carbon trust about the 'Biomass Heat Accelerator Scheme'
